Mathematics
In roughly increasing order of mathematical advancement:
- WolframAlpha
-
Paul's Online Notes,
a useful Calculus (and Algebra and Differential Equations) resource.
(After reading the terms, find a course from the top menus.)
- Piazza, my favorite Q&A platform for classes.
- 3Blue1Brown, nice videos on a variety of topics.
- Nicky Case's site with neat interactives.
- PBS Infinite Series, more great videos.
- Vi Hart, with more whimsical videos. (See especially her earlier "Doodling in Math" videos.)
- Career posibilities in Applied Mathematics, by SIAM.
- Dream Jobs, career profiles by the MAA.
- Mathematics: A Very Short Introduction, book by Timothy Gowers. My favorite short introduction to advanced mathematics for an undergraduate.
- Roots of Unity blog by Evelyn Lamb. (See especially her "favorite spaces" posts.)
- What do math grad students do all day? by Yasha Berchenko-Kogan.
-
The Hundred Greatest Theorems
according to Nathan Kahl.
- More links from Anton Lukyanenko.
- the arxivist, a recommender system for the daily arXiv submissions.
- SageMath, free mathematical software system (including a cloud version).
- I use TikZ for drawing figures in LaTeX.
- MathOverflow, a nice site for graduate-level questions.
Puzzles
- Nurikabe: Daily moderate or harder puzzles. (I would love to see a Nurikabe puzzle that has a unique solution with the additional constraint that each possible Tetris piece is an island.)
- Lots of puzzles, with nice options. Play on the web, or download them, or find a port for mobile!
Chess Variants
- Lots of (easy) applets: Ed Friedlander's site. (These are Java applets, so will probably not work without considerable effort.)
- Even more variants, plus some analysis: ChessVariants.org (I am an editor of this site.)
- 3+ dimensional analysis: CV Wikidot
- A partial list of my favorites:
- My own 4D game, and some thoughts: Chess-Basics
- A mashing together of chess variant and deck-building game: For the Crown
